CST stems from Osteopathy and is a light touch therapy.
Though it’s not a massage and there is no channeling of energy unlike Reiki for example, Cranio-Sacral Therapy is a pain and drug-free way of hands-on healing method.
It is exceptionally gentle yet extremely powerful and profound.
CST helps treat from simple aches & pains to severe, complex and persistent health issues:
· Physical & Emotional Blocks
· Shock and Trauma
· Muscle Injuries
· Headaches and Migraines
Most insurance providers will only cover Cranio-Sacral Therapy that is provided by a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT), Osteopath or Physiotherapist.
After a CST treatment session people have reported:
· Deep relaxation
· Better sleep
· Alleviation of symptoms
· Increased mobility, flexibility, balance
· Increased body awareness and clarity of mind
· Greater sense of wellbeing
· Muscular/Skeletal alignment
When a practitioner places their hands lightly on the patient they are tuning in and engaging with tide-like rhythms in your body enabling your natural potential for healing.
Through her therapeutic presence the practitioner seeks to restore balance to the cranio-sacral system enabling your being to re-align to the core levels of health.
The practitioner makes a light contact with your head, feet, the base of your spine, arms, neck and other areas, encouraging your body to relax and begin to make the changes it needs.
During a session there may be a lot of silence as you deeply relax, or there may be a dynamic peacefulness as you engage with your practionner as to what is being felt.
Response to Cranio-Sacral Therapy varies from individual to individual and condition to condition and your experience of the work will be uniquely yours so, the frequency of treatments is up to you and the therapist.
Sometimes people report relief after only one or two sessions. For long-standing problems, you may need 10 or more sessions to fully benefit from CST.
The initial treatment session (including the intake) is 1h15 min, though the length of time can vary.
The subsequent treatment session usually lasts for 1 hour.
CranioSacral therapy is gentle and non-invasive and is therefore an extremely safe therapy.
CST is less likely to cause soreness afterwards and, is a very easy treatment for the body to absorb and, CST is suitable for everyone from newly-born babies to the elderly.
The gentleness of Cranio-Sacral Therapy is such that the body responds to the light hands-on work of your Cranio-Sacral Therapist and will not bring the sort of dreaded response experienced in deeper, more forceful work or any toxicity from drugs or scarring from surgery.
As we often say the treatment starts at the end of the session.
You may leave in such a deeply relaxed state that you feel like sleeping for hours. Or you may feel full of boundless energy.
You may become more aware of symptoms or areas of discomfort. This may be brief, and often subsides within 24 hours, clearing to leave a sense of ease.
CST aims to empower you, and this involves suggesting other complimentary health approaches if we consider this is necessary.
CST can safely be used as an adjunct to other forms of treatment and, works well alongside other complementary approaches such as acupuncture, homeopathy and yoga.
After CST it is recommended to rest and relax, even if it is only a few moments, before stepping back into your busy life.
It is generally recommended that you take it easy on your body for a day or two after a CST treatment, and avoid any other bodywork for 48-72 hours so as to allow the body to settle into its new state.
Although it may not be obvious to you during the session, your body has done a lot of work, self-correcting and it is a good idea to drink plenty of water and rest adequately after a CST treatment to help support the body in its healing process.
